Following high public interest and the exhaustion of the initial print run, the reprinting of the collection “Shen Khar Venakhi” (You are a vineyard) is starting with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia.
The collection is dedicated to “Shen Khar Venakhi,” the chant to the Virgin Mary that has become a symbol of Georgian chanting. It is the only surviving example of medieval Georgian sacred music whose author’s name — King Demetre I — has reached us.
The bilingual Georgian-English edition brings together 25 versions of the chants from different Georgian chanting schools. The publication is accompanied by 18 audio recordings, some of which belong to archival materials, while others were specially recorded by contemporary ensembles.
