On May 6, the first solo concert of the Anzor Erkomaishvili Folklore State Centre Choir was held in the small hall of the Rustaveli National Theatre. The evening featured vocal pieces and chants from various regions of Georgia. The event was held with the support of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia.
The target of founding the mentioned choir was to promote Georgian musical folklore and continue the traditions of performing folk music among the younger generation. It was founded in 2024 with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The members include students of the Schools of Choirmasters as well as students and graduates of the G.Mtatsmindeli University of Chant.
The Folklore Centre Choir is distinguished by its management model – it does not have a single leader. This decision was made by Giorgi Donadze, the director of the Folklore State Centre. According to him, this tradition comes from renowned older ensembles and is the correct approach, since it is impossible for one person alone to fully embody and master the diverse regional styles of Georgian song. Alongside Giorgi Donadze, the ensemble’s choirmasters are Lika Liparteliani, Tornike Skhiereli, Giorgi Khunashvili, and Sergo Urushadze.
