On May 6, 7, and 8, the International Festival of Women’s Traditional Music “Nanina – 2026” will be held, organized by the ethnomusicologists` creative group “Nanina.”
The festival aims to introduce all genres of women’s traditional music to a wide audience. This year’s theme is “Women’s Lament – Tradition, Customs, Music.” The festival includes a multidisciplinary conference, screenings of video materials featuring folklore-ethnographic and musical traditions of women’s lament, and live performances of musical pieces.
This year, the festival has been granted international status. Alongside Georgian traditions, it will present women’s mourning culture from various countries, including Scotland, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Spain, and Azerbaijan.
The scientific conferences will begin at 10:00 on May 6 and 8, and at 11:00 on May 7. The stage program will begin at 18:00 on May 6 and 8. The festival will take place at the Folk Centre Hall.
The festival is supported financially by Tbilisi City Hall, the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, and “Creative Georgia.” Supporters include the Anzor Erkomaishvili Folklore State Centre, the “Georgian Chanting Foundation”, and the “Shilda winery”.
The festival is dedicated to the memory of His Holiness and Beatitude, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia, Metropolitan of Bichvinta and Tskhum-Abkhazia, Ilia II.
