In the book “ Ethnomusicology: A Very Short Introduction”, its author, Timothy Rice, a prominent contemporary ethnomusicologist, summarizes the knowledge collected till recently about  the  ethnomusicology as a growing discipline of traditional music ;  Shares the methods and practices used by researchers in the study of world (traditional) music, both in field work and in the analysis of collected data. Apart from  ethnomusicology, the author of the book also discusses those approaches that consider the use of theories of anthropology and other social sciences, and which are of great importance to better clarify the nature of this or that musical tradition, to explain social behavior and cultural practices.
